Mee-Mee Chan |
![]() |
Some one gave me "Mee-mee Chan during the first week I was born! We both less than a week away from being 29, which is a bit amazing. She still come with me everywhere, she's been to all the countries I have and we survived college together. Rabbit in Japanese is "usagi", but I couldn't say that when I started talking, my mom said I just started calling her "Mee-mee" and then "Chan" was added by my aunt because I carried her around like my own child.

Elephant |

This is Elephant (very creatively named) whom I have had since I was one day old (I was born on July 18, 1974). He was a boy when I was a toddler, a girl when I was five-ish and went back to being a boy in my tweens. He has been patched over his patches some and is due for another patching.

Pinky |
![]() |
This is my dirty wow wow, Pinky. She is 25 years old, as I got her right before I went to preschool. Her fur used to be light pink and fuffy and she's had numerous hair cuts and some minor ear surgery during her life. Pinky is supposed to be a cat, but for some reason I decided to call her a "Skink" and I actually have a few other differently colored brothers and sisters for her, but she was my favorite and the oldest one.

Ellie |

This is not my Dirty Wow Wow, but my dog, Probert's. He was adopted at 11 months old from a rescue in Columbus, OH and moved in with us in Philadelphia, PA. With him, he brought his only posession in the world: His Ellie. While other stuffed toys are shredded to bits, Probert's Ellie is his one true love.

Hug Me |
![]() |
This is Hug Me. It's written on her apron so I thought that was her name. She's 23. Her mouth rubbed off and sheís gone though countless surgeries (I was a horrible young seamstress, she has no original seams). Once, my dog tore out some of her guts. My dad replaced it with an old sock and restitched her thinking I wouldn't notice. Obviously, I noticed but she still has my dad's sock inside her.

Blankie |

Meet Blankie. Blankie is 27 years old, and, except for maybe 5 days, has slept with me every single night of my life (including my wedding night). Blankie has lost a bit of weight over the years as his stuffing compressed and then started falling out, but I still love him.

Zero |

The Christmas of '78 I found this polar bear under the tree. He was promptly chosen over the Barbie and the Bike to be my forever friend. I only knew 2 things about polar bears: 1.They came from the North Pole. 2.It was zero degrees there. Hence his name Zero. As a kid we moved ALOT & Zero has survived all 36 relocations! I hope to have him until the day I die.

Pink Kitty |
![]() |
Kitty has been with me since I was a few months old. He had a partner in crime; my mom would slip my pacifier over one of his knobby hands (so we wouldn't loose it) and the two together became "papoo-kee". I once told my mom that I was going to sleep with kitty until I was 26 years old. I'm now almost 24, and kitty still has a special place at the end of my bed (much to my husband's amusement).

Thumper |
![]() |
Thumper is my best beloved "eesah bunny". He's almost 50 years old.
When I was losing my first tooth, it wiggled and wiggled but wouldn't fall out. Then, on our summer vacation, driving from Florida to Rhode Island, I was leaning over the front seat and Thumper's ear bumped my tooth. It fell out. For the rest of the drive, my parents were subjected to my endless repetition of "Thumper did it."

Joe Dumars |

Joe Dumars! Given to comfort me during a bout of mono and he_s been my faithful pal 18 years since. A quiet, dependable guy like his Detroit Pistons namesake. I don_t know his life before we met, but he tells Vietnam stories over drinks at the VFW. He sadly lost his left flipper to a Great Pyrenees in 1998. Joe comforts me still, especially during Husband's Navy deployments and I love him more than sunshine.

Fuzzy |
![]() |
When I was four, I received Fuzzy as a Christmas gift. He became my constant companion. He had many surgeries, some unsuccessful. His nose fell off and was glued back, many times, until it was lost for good. His mouth wore down to just a tiny bit of tongue. His beans would leak out everywhere, and mom would sew him. But, eventually, there weren't enough beans left, so she stuffed him with old panty hose.

Baby |

Here is "Baby". I got her on my 1st birthday, and that makes her, umm... 39 in July. She originally had musical qualities, but underwent surgery so that I wouldn't get poked. She used to wear a cute green/white striped party dress belonging to one of our dolls. The green bows on her ears & tail matched the dress nicely. I also embroidered her pink nose myself!

Cat |
![]() |
This is Cat. He was made for me by a lady that babysat me when I was a baby-baby, in '78. My gramma made his little overalls and he had a summer romper, too. He went everywhere with me and submitted to being thrown in puddles and left in airports without complaint or residual bitterness. I even had a teeshirt that said, "Yes, I AM the Cat's Mother" because I would play at breastfeeding Cat, while "smoking" a plastic barette. He is my only stuffie that is not in storage, but displayed with pride on the shelf above my bed.

Sherman |
![]() |
Here is "Sherman" ... He was a Christmas present 22 years ago, when I was 18. I hadn't really had a stuffed animal since I had been a very young child, but that first year of college was distressing and difficult for me, and I became attached to Sherman. I still sleep with him, even though I've been married for sixteen years and am the mom of three children. I confess that it embarrasses me a little bit to do this, so I usually keep him hidden during the day. When I was in college, I used to douse him with the cologne of the boyfriend du jour so that I could inhale the aroma while I slept.

Ted |
![]() |
He was playing "hide and seek" with Claire, his bear friend. Ted came to live with my boyfriend when he was born in 1977. He is of the Animal Fair clan from the mid 1970's. Since he met me, his wardrobe grew and he met Claire when on holiday in Vermont. He doesn't say much, but that is because he's enlightened. Some call him the "Teddy Lama." He has been through a few neck surgeries due to his large noggin, but maintains an active lifestyle by jumping on the bed when no one's looking.

This is Socko, who doesn't sit upright very well any more. My grandmother made him 57 years ago from a sock. He was supposed to be a sock monkey, but she had no pattern. I forgave him his lack of a tail
and treasured him. Years later, the same grandma made my son a sock
monkey, long tail and all, from a kit. It was cute, and my son loved him, but Socko has more personality!

This is Powder. He's 21. He is a Swiftheart Rabbit Care Bear Cousin. (The real Swiftheart is a girl, but Powder is a boy.) His eyes were worn off, but my college roommate drew them back on for him. When I was five his tag fell off. I cried. My mom bought some silky blue fabric to replace it. Whenever I see signs for E-ZPass on the highway ("Tagholder keep left") I crave Powder's company.

Puff |
![]() |
Puff is one of the original kitten Puff-a-lumps made in 1986 and she was given to me when I was nine months old. She has pulled through numerous surgeries performed expertly by Mom, has many scars, and has lost most of her stuffing. No matter how many times she gets washed there is some permanent filth that clings to her and is especially visible on her white paws. She can no longer support the weight of her own head because years of carrying her by the neck has forced the stuffing down into her belly. Puff's dress isn't supposed to look like a hula skirt; it used to be in one piece. Puff has always been with me and I'll never let her go; I wouldn't give her up for all the money in the world.

Jock |
![]() |
Here's Jock with a photo from the day I got him in 1970. Mom re-embroidered his face to be more appealing not long after arrival. By the late 70's his body had become so mutilated that a new one was slip-covered over his old torso (preserving his original "heart"). Jock can never be washed again or his entire head would probably dissolve. If my house were on fire, I would save my husband, my dog, and my monkey.

Care Bear |

Care Bear was a fifth birthday gift from Ohio. I lived in the Netherlands. When we moved to Oman, Care Bear sat in the top half of my backpack. I snuggled with Care Bear on airplanes - there were lots - and felt at home. When we moved to the US, Care Bear was there. Care Bear moved to college, to my first job, and now sits in my bedroom while I work on my PhD and watch TV with my husband.

Bruno T. Bear |

Meet Bruno T. Bear -- “T” stands for "the" -- as he was when given to me by my father for Christmas, and 20 years later. He is nearly flat, missing an eye, his ears have disappeared, his fur is completely matted, and there are bald patches where he's just been loved right through. I wouldn't trade him for the world, and he has travelled it with me (as carry-on -- no suitcases for this wow wow).

This is Charly. I'm not sure how I came up with the name, but you can see that he is a survivor. He's still looking good even after having one eye replaced by a button, having lost his nose, and -- though it may not be apparent from the photo, his entire right leg needed to be replaced due to a combination of dog attacks and a serious singe from spending too much time sitting on a lightbulb.

Piggeth |

Behold, piggeth. So named because my brother and I were strange little
kids. (My mother read us Carmen Possum. Though "misplaced" on and
off over the years, piggeth provided hours of entertainment and was
always willing to imitate the family cats by pinning his ears back and
exclaming "Meow!" He’s been thrown over balconies and squished in a
cedar chest, but always retains his piggeth-ness. I know of no-one else
with a green pig.

My parents were antique dealers and when I was around 4 or 5 I went with
them on a house call. They were going through the basement for the
homeowners and I still remember finding the little bear. He was all the way on the other side of the basement in a box in the dark. I pulled him out and brought him over to my dad and the homeowner. They asked me what I had and I said "he's filthy" and thats been his name ever since, 33 years ago.

Coco is over 50 years old and was handed down to me from my older brother. He got his name from an unfortunate chocolate incident. I used to have 'night terrors' when I was a kid... after many attempts to
calm me down, my parents told me that Bugs was going to watch over me and chase away the bad dreams. This calmed me and I was finally able to sleep. Bugs has seen better days... his eyes are getting scratched, and he has a hole in his head that's been patched many times. His snow-white fur is turning grey.

Brown Bear |

My 5 year old brother brought “brown bear” to the hospital the day I was born (making him 29 years old). He only has patches of hair left because I “loved” the hair off him. His eyes are melted from when my mom put him in the dyer and he lost his mouth so my mom used pink thread and made him a new one, regardless, even today he still is my most prized possession.

Tigerfluff |

this is tigerfluff. she's about 35 years old. when i got her, i couldn't decide whether to name her 'tiger' or 'fluff', so i combined the two into 'tigerfluff'. years of sleeping tucked into the crook of my armpit eventually wore out the bunny-soft fur around her body, so i used my mom's sewing machine, and a scrap of fabric leftover from some pants mom had made me, to make a simple dress to cover up tigerfluff's exposed guts.

Fluffy |

Fluffy was once---fluffy-- when received as a baptism gift but was loved so hard that my grandma recovered her many times, using terry washcloths for each new "coat". Somewhere under all that fabric Fluffy lost a leg, but Grandma always embroidered a "T" in back for "tiny hiny". Fluffy spent weeks absolutely sodden in the clammy oxygen tent with me when I was hospitalized with childhood asthma, and I would feel sick at heart to hear her thudding in the dryer when we got home. She's traveled with me, went on my honeymoon, and is still the first thing I reach for to go back to sleep after a bad dream or when I don't feel well.

Caramel |

I got Caramel at the embarrassingly old age of 10 as a present from my best friend. This little Japanese dog (I lived in Japan when I got him) was named for his pretty brown color. Caramel has lots of animal friends but is the most well-traveled because he is so small. He has lots of bald patches which are mostly covered by a yellow sweater knitted especially for him by my Gran. He still has one spot on his belly that is as silky as it was the day I got him. He would love to go back to visit Japan someday but is happy to keep me company wherever I am. He is a good friend and is now almost 13 years old.

Here is an image of my childhood blanket, Snoozy. He was made of the softest white cotton and was printed with blue flowers. Now he is completely grey, torn up, thread-bare and the flowers are gone. Despite his injuries, Snoozy is a reminder of the secure and happy childhood I had and his wounds tell the stories of his "life". He was a jet-setting blanket, accompagning me from London to Paris to New York to Florida. I slept with him tucked under my cheek every night.

Slush |
![]() |
This is Slush the Bear. His name was Teddy but he switched to Slush in high school. Slush = dirty snow = dirty old polar bear. He's 21 years old. His favorites are snacking/cupcakes (hence the bib), snuggling and sleeping. He went to college with me, where he majored in Chillin'. He wears that blue shirt everyday, mostly to cover his multiple surgeries from his childhood adventures. His nose is crooked because my cousin yanked once when she was mad. The fur grafts are from the time I had to re-stuff his neck area, matted down from over-hugging. The shirt could be a good cover-up, except it rolls up over his pudgy belly-butt every five minutes, which is ok, because he likes to do the bear-butt dance and he poot-farts all the time.

Bunny is exactly as old as my younger sister, 30 years old. Bunny was the token gift for me (the big sister) when everyone else's attention was focused on my new baby sister being born. Her ear is held on by a rusty safety pin, and her bobtail hangs on by a few yellowy threads. But the music box in her tummy still plays Frere Jacques, which I used to fall asleep to on nights when I was lonely or restless, even when me, Bunny and my little sister weren't so little anymore.

My sister and I each had one of these guys who we named the Silly Brothers. We were just two sisters, each with the "No Boys Allowed" signs on our bedroom doors. Snuggles the Seal was made by Mattell in 1984 in Korea. My mom bought him in 1985 and he was my absolute favorite animal. He was special for being so cute, but even more special for the story he told. He has a tear-drop in his left eye. A card attached to his hand from an animal rights organization told of how he was crying because his brothers & sisters were killed for their fur. Around 6 years later, at the tender age of 11, I became a vegetarian & credit Snuggles the Seal for my love of animals. His t-shirt used to say 'Snuggles', but little remains. Glitter & pink paint from having lived with a girl remain on him. Even with his dirty coat & his frayed whiskers, he's still the cutest seal I've ever had.

Browny hopped into my arms when I was about 4 years old when my parents had to leave me with a babysitter for the first time one night. He has since given me many hugs and comfort through the past 32 years. Momma put Browny through the washing machine once which injured him a little bit, but Grandma helped patch the old guy up for me with some stockings and some tender care.

Snugs |

I received my first Snugs when I wasn't even a year old from my Great Uncle Fred. I took him everywhere. After I almost lost him off a bridge, my cousin decided I could have his as a back up. The years following I left them at Menards, church, and at a hotel! I'm 22 now, and they still snuggle up with me every night. We have traveled the world together and through it all, they are my best friends.

Chi Chi |

This is Chi Chi. He's in his late-20's and has had many adventures in his long life. He's lived all over the world and been played with by more kids than he can count. Now he mostly rests in bed, but once in awhile he still likes to suck on his toe!

Armi |

Armi is a VERY special member of our family. We had him made for my husband before he left for his first deployment to Iraq. There he kept hubby company and served as a comfy pillow as well. After his return, Armi found a new home in my son's bed, where he will help keep him close to Daddy while he's gone for his second deployment.

Tigey |

This is my son's friend, Tigey. Tigey's become a bit worn out from lots of loving. He can't smell (and can barely see) anymore due to an unfortunate canine encounter, but he's still just as soft as ever and he is VERY loved! In fact, I had to sneak him from his bed when my son wasn't looking.

Kitty |

Kitty was given to me by my fiancé about a year after we started dating to keep me company while I was away in Japan. He loved plush cats when he was younger, and this was his favorite. She has been through two noses, and currently has none. Her real name is Amanda, but I’ve had her for four years and now my fiancé calls her Kitty, too.
